Hiking trail: BUKOVAC

Experience an adrenaline-filled adventure on one of the most beautiful mountain trails of Biokovo with breathtaking views!

The Bukovac trail represents a classic and challenging ascent on Biokovo, rewarding hikers with spectacular vistas of the Adriatic Sea and the islands. Although this is a true mountain climb, the path is well-marked and guides you through the authentic karst landscape of Biokovo.

Mountain hut and Ovčja Pola viewpoint

During the ascent, at approximately 1030 meters above sea level, you will find a mountain hut. It offers the possibility of overnight stay by prior arrangement with the mountaineering society "Pozjata", Brela.

A half-hour walk from the hut is the extraordinary viewpoint Ovčja pola (1262 m/asl), which provides a fantastic, expansive view:

• A vista encompassing both the Makarska Riviera, Omiš and islands.

• Biokovo massif: Unobstructed view of the central Biokovo massif.

What awaits you on the trail?

Your hiking adventure begins with an ascent through lower forest areas, where you quickly encounter the typical Biokovo karst. The Bukovac trail is known for its authenticity:

• Karst terrain: You will move through unique stone formations, dry-stone walls, and narrow passages that testify to the centuries-long struggle between man and the mountain.

• Flora and fauna: In the higher zones, the scents of sage and immortelle dominate, and you might spot chamois—the symbols of Biokovo.

This is a mountain trail in the truest sense of the word. Be sure to carry enough water, use sun protection, and check the weather forecast before setting off. Engaging a local guide is recommended.
